About the Role

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Screen Media Production, with a secondary focus on Game Media.

This is a balanced teaching and research role forming part of the Bachelor of Communication and Media (BCM) program. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, and scholarly activities aligned with contemporary screen, media, and cultural industries.

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with indicative subjects including:

  • Introduction to Screen Media Production
  • Transmedia Storytelling
  • Transnational Media and Culture Industries

Teaching responsibilities include designing and delivering lectures and tutorials, assessing student work, supporting student learning and progression, and contributing to ongoing development of the BCM curriculum.

Research & Scholarly Engagement

The role supports practice based and/or scholarly research aligned with screen media, media industries, and related disciplines. While there is no minimum publication requirement, candidates should demonstrate research capability or emerging trajectory appropriate to an Assistant Professor level, including professional or practice based outputs where relevant.

Requirements
  • PhD (completed by commencement) in Screen Media, Film Studies, Media and Communication, Cinema Studies, or a closely related discipline
  • At least 3 years' teaching experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated discipline specific knowledge in screen media, film, media industries, or closely related fields
  • Strong pedagogical alignment and ability to teach media concepts critically and creatively
  • Evidence of effective communication of academic expertise (e.g. through CV, teaching materials, or portfolio)
  • Experience or interest in Game Media or related digital media forms
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and program growth
Compensation and Benefits
