Assistant Professor/Instructor, Mass Communication - Digital Media

The Department of Mass Communication at Midwestern State University invites applications for a faculty position in digital media to begin August 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, benefits-eligible position.

The department offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized concentrations. We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students. Our students, faculty and alumni have won major awards at the state, regional and national levels.

Midwestern State University is centrally located between Dallas and Oklahoma City in Wichita Falls (population 103,000). MSU, a Texas public university with nearly 5,300 students, is small enough to be personal but large enough to offer students considerable opportunities. Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in mass communication or a related field, and substantial professional experience in a media-related field, is required for the rank of instructor on non-tenure track. A doctorate or terminal degree in mass communication or a related field is required for the rank of assistant professor on tenure track. Related teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level, is required (full-time teaching experience is preferred but we will also consider those with experience teaching as a graduate assistant).

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: experience in teaching other core classes such as Mass Media and Society, Film Appreciation and introductory writing courses; experience in academic advising; experience with recruiting; or experience with journalism, video and/or multimedia production.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
