The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in all phases of construction projects, from pre-construction through closeout. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and development in Project Manager responsibilities while contributing directly to project planning, execution, cost control, scheduling, safety, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
- Assist with pursuit of future projects and pre-construction planning efforts
- Support the development of project pricing and budgets in collaboration with estimators
- Participate in the “winning team” approach during project pursuits
Project Pre-Planning
- Ensure project planning meetings are conducted and documented
- Support adherence to established pre-planning processes and implementation of additional processes as needed
- Assist the project team with risk identification and mitigation strategies
Construction Phase
- Analyze, draft, and manage subcontract agreements
- Prepare subcontractor bid tabs and assist with subcontractor prequalification
- Coordinate with the Superintendent on material purchases, rental equipment, and forming systems
- Prepare and submit proposed change orders to the Owner
- Lead or participate in weekly project meetings
- Prepare and submit monthly owner billings
- Track and maintain proposed changes and project documentation
- Monitor project schedule and progress
- Review monthly job cost reports and assist with forecasting
- Support and monitor jobsite safety programs
- Ensure all quality control processes are followed
- Coordinate with VDC/BIM teams on operational modeling needs
- Participate in monthly jobsite safety walks and enter findings into the safety tracking system
Project Closeout
- Support project closeout activities including warranties, as-built drawings, and maintenance manuals
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years in commercial construction
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Engineering, or related field
- Working knowledge of commercial construction processes
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to analyze schedules, budgets, and job cost reports
