Bihn Construction is a growing general contractor serving the Upstate of South Carolina. We deliver public and private construction projects across a wide range of sectors, including municipal, K-12, higher education, parks and recreation, commercial, hospitality, industrial, and select high-end residential.
Our work includes ground-up construction, renovations, interior build-outs, site development, public works projects, and custom residential construction. We work with municipalities, school districts, universities, developers, businesses, and private clients throughout the region.
As our project volume continues to grow, we are seeking an Assistant Project Manager who can help support project execution across multiple projects while developing into a Project Manager role over time.
Position Overview
The Assistant Project Manager will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects from preconstruction through closeout. This position requires a combination of project coordination, field involvement, subcontractor management, documentation, client communication, and administrative support.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. This individual should be comfortable working both in the office and in the field and should have a genuine interest in growing into a Project Manager position. The successful candidate will be actively involved in project execution, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, procurement, documentation, client communication, and field operations.
Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Coordination

Assist in managing commercial, public, civil, and residential projects from award through final closeout.

Support project planning, scheduling, procurement, and overall project execution.

Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors throughout the life of each project.

Help maintain project schedules and ensure critical milestones are achieved.

Assist with project startup, project setup, and project closeout activities.

Track outstanding items and drive follow-up to ensure commitments are met.

Client & Team Communication
-
Attend client meetings, OAC meetings, preconstruction meetings, and coordination meetings.

Prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and action item logs.

Issue weekly project updates and maintain communication with clients regarding project progress.

Represent Bihn Construction professionally with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and public agencies.

Assist in resolving project issues through clear communication and proactive coordination.

Subcontractor & Vendor Management

Support subcontractor buyout efforts, including bid solicitation, scope review, bid leveling, and procurement.

Assist with preparation and execution of subcontract agreements and purchase orders.

Track certificates of insurance, subcontract execution, and compliance documentation.

Coordinate subcontractor schedules and project logistics.

Manage material deliveries and supplier coordination.

Project Documentation & Administration
-
Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, permit documentation, inspection records, and project correspondence.

Maintain organized digital and physical project files.

Distribute project information to team members and subcontractors as required.

Track plan revisions, specification updates, and project records.
-
Assist with document control and company process implementation.

Cost Management & Financial Support

Assist with change order pricing, tracking, and execution.

Support owner billing and subcontractor payment application reviews.

Maintain project logs and cost tracking information.

Assist with budget management and reporting.
-
Help ensure project documentation supports accurate billing and cost control.

Field Operations Support
-
Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and support field operations.
-
Coordinate with superintendents, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project momentum.

Assist with punch list development and project closeout.
-
Support quality control and project documentation efforts in the field.
-
Help identify and communicate project risks before they become problems.
Qualifications
3–5+ years of experience with a general contractor or established subcontractor in an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or similar role.

Experience supporting construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project stakeholders.

Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, change orders, schedules, contracts, purchase orders, billing support, insurance requirements, and closeout procedures.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Professional written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with Buildertrend, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and construction management software.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites throughout the Upstate region.
Preferred Experience

Public work, municipal, K-12, higher education, or government-funded construction projects.

Site development, utilities, grading, paving, and civil construction.

Commercial renovations, occupied renovations, and ground-up construction.

Experience helping improve processes, systems, templates, and project controls within a growing construction company.

Exposure to estimating, procurement, or preconstruction services.

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
