Assistant Prosecuting Attorney - Criminal Division

Starting Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 (commensurate with experience)

The Clinton County Prosecutor's Office is accepting applications for the role of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the criminal division.

Responsibilities:
Criminal (Felony Prosecution):
  • Prosecute felony cases on behalf of Clinton County and the State of Ohio in criminal proceedings, including arraignments, dispositions, probation/community control violations, sentencing hearings, bond hearings, trials, and Grand Jury presentations.
  • Present arguments and evidence to the court for trials and motion hearings.
  • Prepare motions, briefs, discovery responses, and other court filings; litigate evidentiary and constitutional issues as needed.
  • Prepare and meet with victims and witnesses; coordinate with law enforcement and victim advocates; comply with Marsy's Law.
  • Provide legal advice and charging guidance to law enforcement agencies, consistent with Ohio law and office policy.

General:
  • Conduct legal research and analyze legal issues; develop practical recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Maintain organized case files and accurate case-management records; meet deadlines and court schedules.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Prosecutor's Office, county agencies, and law enforcement partners; assist other divisions when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney and those prescribed by law.
Qualifications:
  • Admission to the Ohio Bar pursuant to R.C. 4705.01; in good standing and eligible to practice in all Ohio courts.
  • Ability to work in the office on a daily basis and to work outside normal business hours when court schedules, trial preparation, or emergencies require.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills; ability to produce clear, persuasive motions and briefs under deadline.
  • Demonstrated judgment, professionalism, and discretion; ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters.
  • Ability to manage a mixed docket and communicate effectively with victims, witnesses, law enforcement, county officials, and members of the public.
  • Working knowledge of criminal law and procedure; familiarity with local-government practice and civil litigation is helpful.
  • Proficiency with common office software and legal-research platforms (e.g., Westlaw).
  • Prior prosecution and/or civil litigation experience is preferred but not required.
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary is commensurate with experience. The starting salary range is $75,000 - $95,000.
  • Full-time role; paid bi-weekly; paid vacation and sick time; 13 paid holidays.
