Assistant Public Defender

Overview
We are seeking a motivated and client-centered attorney to join our Public Defender team. As an Assistant Public Defender, you will provide zealous, ethical representation to individuals who cannot afford private counsel, safeguarding their constitutional rights at every stage of the criminal process.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent clients in criminal proceedings from initial appearance through resolution
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and factual investigation to develop effective defense strategies
• Draft and argue motions, briefs, and appeals with precision and clarity
• Negotiate with prosecutors to pursue favorable case resolutions
• Litigate cases in court, including hearings, trials, and sentencing proceedings
• Maintain consistent, professional communication with clients, witnesses, and justice-system stakeholders
• Uphold the highest ethical standards, including confidentiality and client advocacy

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong legal research skills, including proficiency with Westlaw
• Effective negotiation and courtroom advocacy abilities
• Excellent legal writing skills with close attention to detail
• Experience (or demonstrated aptitude) in courtroom litigation and oral argument
• Solid understanding of criminal procedure and applicable laws
• Ability to manage a caseload while remaining thorough, organized, and client-focused

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $5,906.00 - $15,080.00 per month
