Appalachian Circuit Public Defender's Office is part of our statewide public defender system. Our circuit consists of Pickens, Gilmer, and Fannin Counties and includes the cities of Jasper, Ellijay, and Blue Ridge. This posting is for Jasper. We are dedicated to the zealous representation of our clients in the court system.

As an Assistant Public Defender, you will have the opportunity to represent indigent clients at every stage from arrest through jury trial. You will advocate for our clients' rights and ensure they receive quality representation as their case moves through the legal system.

We are looking for licensed attorneys or law school graduates who are awaiting results of the exam.

Duties
As a Public Defender, you will be responsible for providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford an attorney. Candidates should be able to:

• write legal documents
• research legal issues
• negotiate case resolutions with prosecutors
• argue legal issues in court
• collaborate with our office support staff
• manage a case load

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to the Georgia State Bar Association or awaiting results from most recent exam
• Experience in legal writing and research
• Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Knowledge and experience with criminal law and court procedures

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
