The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, located in Ridgefield, CT, is seeking an Assistant to the Chief Curator (“Assistant”). Founded in Ridgefield, Connecticut by fashion designer and art collector Larry Aldrich, The Aldrich was one of the first contemporary art museums in the country and today is one of the oldest. Known for its visionary exhibition program and artist-centric approach, the Museum presents first solo institutional shows, significant exhibitions of established artists, and thematic group exhibitions around timely social themes.
The Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the Chief Curator and the Exhibitions Department, managing calendars, correspondence, and project details while also assisting with research, and project assistance for exhibitions and publications. The Assistant will effectively act as the primary point of contact for the Chief Curator's day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the Chief Curator's calendar, scheduling meetings, appointments, and events, including coordinating with other departments and external contacts.
- Manage the Chief Curator’s travel logistics and expense reports.
- Handle incoming correspondence to the Chief Curator as needed, drafting responses, taking meeting notes, and routing inquiries.
- Act as a liaison between the Chief Curator and other departments, including education, marketing, and development.
- Assist and support the Chief Curator with the planning of exhibitions and projects she is organizing, including compiling research, artist outreach, loan requests, and exhibition documentation.
- Work collaboratively with the Museum’s Curatorial and Publications Manager on assembling exhibition materials such as images, checklists, production, and installation details. Assist with the creation of digital renderings/physical models for exhibitions and projects.
- Liaison with artists, galleries, and other exhibition lenders as needed.
- Aid the Development Department in arranging and planning artist studio tours for Museum members and patrons.
- Create lender lists for the Museum database as well as guests lists for events and openings.
- Distribute publications internally and to artists, lenders, galleries, authors, institutional partners, etc.
- Prepare presentations and budget documents; process invoices and expenses; maintain the publications and exhibitions archive; organize and manage the exhibitions library; migrate exhibition documents to the Museum server.
- Compile information and assist with the preparation of exhibition didactics like wall text, artist audio, and labels.
- Aid exhibition development efforts by assembling materials for grant applications.
- Assist Exhibitions team and exhibiting artists during installation periods.
- Organize and coordinate travel and accommodations for artists and their staff as related to exhibitions, such as site visits, on-site installation, and opening receptions.
- Assist with Aldrich Collects & Editions.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, fine art, museum studies, or related field.
- Prior administrative experience in an art museum, cultural institution, or gallery is beneficial.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, working with staff as well as artists, curators, lenders, donors, and the public.
- Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proficient on Adobe Suite, SketchUp is beneficial.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $40,000 to $43,000
