Position Summary

Salem College is seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Track & Field Coach to support the growth and success of the Track & Field program. The Assistant Coach will assist in the daily operations of the program, including coaching, recruiting, practice planning, athlete development, and administrative tasks. This individual will help foster a positive student-athlete experience that emphasizes academic success, athletic achievement, personal growth, and adherence to NCAA Division III philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the Track & Field program.
• Provide specialized coaching and training in assigned event areas (sprints, jumps, throws, or distance).
• Support practice planning, skill development sessions, and strength/conditioning programs.
• Recruit and retain student-athletes who embody the academic and athletic standards of Salem College
• Mentor student-athletes, promoting academic achievement, leadership, and personal growth.
• Assist with meet preparation, travel logistics, and competition management.
• Ensure program compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.
• Support departmental initiatives and collaborate with athletics staff to enhance the student-athlete experience.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate or high school level.
• Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and mentoring student-athletes
• . Strong understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
• Experience with athletic administration, business operations, or fundraising/development preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work collaboratively across departments.

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Track & Field Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
