Assistant United States Attorneys in the Civil Division perform an important public service by representing the interests of the United States of America in all civil actions brought by or against the United States in both federal and state courts of law. The primary responsibilities of this Assistant United States Attorney would be to defend the interest of the United States in civil immigration cases including, but not limited to cases seeking habeas relief under 28 U.S.C. § 2241 as well as immigration cases brought under the Administrative Procedures Act (APA). Assistant United States Attorneys also defend the interests of the United States in cases involving medical malpractice, defensive torts, federal and state foreclosures, Social Security, bankruptcy, personal injury, affirmative civil enforcement, actions brought under the Freedom of Information Act, quiet title suits, condemnations, and Touhy requests related to criminal case testimony and document requests in state and federal cases. They also immediately undertake responsibility for a high volume of litigation in a wide-range of additional practice areas including, but not limited to, medical malpractice, employment discrimination, administrative procedures litigation, prisoner litigation, personal injury tort litigation, actions on promissory notes, and actions to defend or enforce subpoenas.

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
Must have demonstrated computer literacy skills, to include experience with automated research on the Internet, electronic mail and word processing systems.
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should possess superior oral and written communication skills and should demonstrate incisive analytical ability, excellent judgment, and strong litigation skills. Applicants should be capable of managing complex, document intensive cases. Applicants should possess an interest and aptitude for technology and document automation.

Pay: $75,145.00 - $195,100.00 per year
