Assistant Wildlife and Livestock Manager (Ranch/Zoo)

Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Assistant Wildlife and Livestock Manager to join our dynamic team at a Texas Hill Country ranch and zoo facility. In this vital role, you will assist in overseeing daily operations related to animal care (over 300 livestock, pets and exotic animals), habitat maintenance, and farm management. Your enthusiasm for wildlife conservation, livestock management, and hands-on work will contribute to creating a safe, healthy environment for animals and staff alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in animal husbandry, equipment maintenance, and agricultural practices while supporting our mission to promote wildlife education and conservation.

Duties

  • Assist in supervising daily animal husbandry activities across various species, ensuring proper feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of farm machinery, irrigation systems, and horticultural equipment to keep habitats thriving.
  • Perform routine equipment repairs, welding, and light mechanical work on farm tools, heavy machinery, and habitat structures.
  • Handle animal care tasks including handling livestock and wildlife safely using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, power tools, heavy equipment, and hand tools safely to support habitat construction and maintenance projects.
  • Contribute to growing experience by assisting with planting, greenhouse management, or horticulture projects as needed.
  • Support staff with tasks such as heavy lifting, equipment inspections, basic math calculations for feed rations or inventory counts, and general maintenance duties.

Skills

  • Supervising experience in animal care or farm operations with strong leadership capabilities.
  • Mechanical knowledge including equipment repair, welding skills, and familiarity with farm machinery.
  • Extensive animal husbandry expertise covering livestock management and wildlife handling techniques.
  • Proficiency operating forklifts, heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, irrigation systems, and greenhouse technology.
  • Knowledge of farming practices such as planting, growing techniques, horticulture, and general agriculture.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during routine maintenance or habitat modifications.
  • Strong understanding of animal care standards along with excellent communication skills for team collaboration.

Pay: $23.25 - $28.00 per hour
