Find The RightJob.

At Collins & Collins, we represent people facing the most difficult moments of their lives—when they or their loved ones have been seriously harmed by powerful corporate or governmental institutions. While civil rights litigation forms the core of our practice, our work extends beyond any single category of law. We focus on cases where serious harm results from institutional failure, profit‑driven decision‑making, and systemic neglect.

We hold corporations, government agencies, and senior decision‑makers accountable when they place profit, expedience, or indifference above human life—something that happens far more often than the public realizes. Corporate exploitation thrives where people are most vulnerable and most easily ignored: in private‑equity‑owned hospitals and clinics, nursing homes, youth facilities, rehabilitation centers, prisons, jails, and other custodial or care‑based institutions.

Our work is bigger than any single case. We litigate for accountability, justice, and systemic change—so people are protected precisely when they are least able to protect themselves.

We are seeking an Associate Attorney who wants to do serious, rigorous litigation against well‑resourced corporate defendants and governmental institutions.

Our Practice

Our cases include:

  • Prison and jail medical neglect, serious injury, and wrongful death
  • Abuse and neglect in private‑equity‑owned hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes
  • Harm to children and youth caused by corporate actors or governmental systems, including CYFD
  • New Mexico Tort Claims Act and related state law claims
  • New Mexico Civil Rights Act
  • Federal civil rights litigation under 42 U.S.C. § 1983
  • Structural, policy‑driven institutional misconduct and systemic abuse

Responsibilities

  • Assist with and handle all phases of complex civil litigation in state and federal court
  • Conduct legal research and factual investigation involving institutional liability and systemic misconduct
  • Interview clients, family members, and witnesses with professionalism and compassion
  • Draft state and federal pleadings, including complaints, motions, and responses
  • Participate in motion practice, hearings, and trials
  • Manage and participate in all phases of informal and formal discovery, including:
  • Drafting and responding to written discovery
  • Drafting public records and FOIA requests
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and managing large‑scale discovery productions
  • Assisting with and conducting depositions
  • Work to identify responsible corporate actors, government agencies, and senior decision‑makers
  • Expose policies, profit‑driven decisions, and institutional failures that caused harm
  • Prepare cases as if they will be tried—because trial readiness is essential to accountability and outcomes
  • Develop and maintain strong, respectful relationships with clients and impacted individuals

Who We’re Looking For

  • An attorney who is passionate about helping people harmed by institutional and systemic abuse
  • Someone willing to take on large corporations, private‑equity‑backed entities, and governmental institutions
  • Comfortable litigating against sophisticated, well‑funded defense counsel
  • Detail‑oriented, intellectually rigorous, and committed to high‑quality legal work
  • Motivated by accountability, justice, and meaningful change—not volume practice or shortcuts

This position is ideal for a lawyer who wants real responsibility, substantive litigation experience, and the opportunity to confront systemic abuse through disciplined, hard‑fought cases.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Handle and assist with all aspects of civil litigation under attorney supervision, from case development through trial
  • Conduct legal research and factual investigation
  • Interview clients, family members, and witnesses
  • Draft and review state and federal pleadings, including complaints, motions, and responses
  • Participate in motion practice, hearings, and trials
  • Drafting and responding to written discovery
  • Drafting public records and FOIA requests
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and managing discovery materials
  • Assisting with and conducting depositions
  • Work on related litigation and case‑development matters as needed
  • Develop and maintain professional, respectful, and compassionate relationships with clients and impacted individuals
