About the Position
A well-established Central Ohio criminal defense law firm is hiring an Associate Attorney to join a growing practice supporting clients through a wide range of criminal matters. This role is ideal for a motivated attorney who is confident in court, values client advocacy, and is looking for steady hands-on litigation experience with meaningful responsibility from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned criminal defense matters from intake through resolution
- Appear in court regularly for arraignments, pretrials, hearings, and other proceedings
- Draft and file motions, legal memoranda, and related pleadings
- Conduct legal research and develop case strategy with supervising attorney support
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case status, expectations, and next steps
- Negotiate with prosecutors and collaborate with court personnel professionally
- Review evidence, discovery, police reports, and related records
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and documentation
- Support trial preparation and participate in trial proceedings when needed
Qualifications
- Active license and good standing with the Ohio Bar
- 0–5 years of experience preferred (open to strong new graduates)
- Prior criminal law, prosecutor, public defender, or litigation experience is a plus
- Strong writing, organization, and communication skills
- Confident courtroom presence and professional client demeanor
- Ability to manage deadlines and handle a high-volume caseload efficiently
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to surrounding courts as needed
- Comfort using Microsoft Office; case management software experience is a plus
Preferred (Not Required)
- Jury trial exposure or hearing experience
- Experience handling misdemeanors, felonies, OVI/DUI, or domestic-related cases
- Spanish-speaking candidates encouraged to apply
