Status: Full-Time | Exempt | Reports to: Managing Attorney

About the Role

The Law Office of Lauryn Tully is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join our client-centered, woman-owned criminal defense firm. This is a courtroom-focused role that offers a well-rounded mix of work across:

  • Adult and juvenile criminal defense (primary caseload)
  • Post-conviction matters, particularly Rule 35(c) litigation
  • Guardian ad Litem representation in delinquency cases

We are looking for an attorney who is confident in the courtroom and enthusiastic about handling a diverse practice. While criminal defense is the foundation, the ideal candidate is also willing and able to litigate 35(c) matters and serve as a GAL in delinquency cases as part of their regular duties as experience continues.

This position would primarily be for attorneys who value being in court and litigation.

We value honesty, professionalism, and genuine commitment to client-centered defense. Candidates must demonstrate real experience, not simply familiarity or observation.

Key Responsibilities

Criminal Defense (Primary)

  • Represent adult and juvenile clients in all stages of trial-level litigation
  • Conduct motions hearings, status conferences, negotiations, and trials
  • Draft motions, develop case strategy, and communicate options to clients

Post-Conviction (Integrated With Courtroom Work)

  • Handle Rule 35(c) cases including investigation, drafting post-conviction claims, and litigating evidentiary hearings
  • Conduct witness preparation, factual development, and courtroom examination

Guardian ad Litem – Delinquency

  • Represent the best interests of youth in delinquency proceedings
  • Attend hearings, meetings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Communicate professionally with families, providers, and system partners

General Expectations

  • Maintain organized, detailed, and timely case files
  • Communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally
  • Work collaboratively with investigators, social workers, and support staff
  • Uphold strong ethical judgment and independent decision-making

Minimum Competencies

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Navigate the stages of a criminal case from advisement to disposition
  • Draft basic trial-level motions such as suppression motions, bond arguments, or mitigation materials
  • Conduct hearings with confidence and professionalism
  • Manage a caseload with appropriate supervision but without constant oversight

Preferred Experience

(Not required, but strong preference given to candidates with demonstrable experience)

  • Hands-on criminal defense experience beyond observation
  • Prior litigation or courtroom experience (juvenile or adult)
  • Experience working with investigators, social workers, or interdisciplinary defense teams
  • Ability to discuss specific past motions, hearings, or case responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in Colorado and in good standing
  • No disciplinary history with any licensing authority
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, email platforms, and legal technology (MyCase, G Suite, Dropbox, etc.)
  • Must reside in or be willing to reliably travel to Colorado Springs
  • Reliable transportation required for court and out-of-county appearances

Work Environment

We offer a hybrid environment with flexibility. Most administrative work may be completed remotely, but in-person attendance is required for court, client meetings, and collaborative team activities.

The position involves urgent matters that may require quick response or shifting priorities.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary: $85,000–$110,000, depending on experience
  • Bonus opportunities
  • PTO and Sick Time Off accrual
  • Employer-sponsored IRA with matching
  • Paid malpractice insurance and attorney registration fees
  • Professional development and training opportunities
  • Supportive team environment with office space available if preferred

We welcome applicants who share our commitment to ethical, compassionate, courtroom-driven advocacy and who are excited about a diverse and meaningful defense practice.
