Bowditch & Dewey is seeking an experienced, team-oriented associate for our Employment Practice Area. The associate assists and supports the assigning attorney(s) in the practice in a mix of litigation, counseling, drafting, investigations and training matters. This position may reside in our Boston, Southborough or Worcester office. The role offers a hybrid schedule with three in office days. This is a full-time position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafting and revising employment policies, handbooks, employment agreements, separation agreements, settlement agreements and employment releases
- Providing counseling to employers on all HR and employment compliance matters
- Litigating employment cases, including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation and wage and hours matters
- Drafting of pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence
- Assisting in all phases of litigation including arguing and defending motions, taking and defending depositions and participating in mediations, arbitrations and trials
- Preparing, reviewing and analyzing voluminous discovery productions and identifying key documents
- Communicating with clients, analyzing client needs, providing sound legal and client centric advice, and status updates
- Providing status updates to the assigning attorney(s)
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Three (3) – five (5) years of experience in an employment practice area
- Proven experience in representing employers, large and small, in various employment disputes
- Strong academic background with a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Massachusetts. (Member of the Massachusetts Bar) (Multiple state Bar admissions are a plus)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
- Time management and multitasking abilities
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and effectively work as part of a larger team
