Job Summary
As an Associate Book Editor you will manage book projects from brainstorm to bookshelf, coordinating with multiple teams on all aspects of the creative and production process to produce beautiful books that will delight readers.
Key Responsibilities
- Help authors and brands bring their creative vision to life, acting as liaison between the author/brand and the 83 Press editorial and marketing teams.
- Manage a project through all stages of production.
- Edit the book for content, flow, factual accuracy, and consistency.
- Research and write editorial and marketing copy.
- Work with photo teams (photographers, prop stylists, and food stylists) to create compelling images that reflect the book’s topic and author/brand aesthetic.
- Coordinate with the Hoffman Media test kitchen to develop recipes, test recipes, and style food photography.
- Work with the art department to define and execute the appropriate visual look for the book.
- Collaborate with copy editing to capture the author/brand voice.
- Set a production schedule and make sure the many deadlines in the creation of a book are met.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field. Experience with and/or enthusiasm for food and cooking is a plus, but not required
- 2-5 years of experience in content creation/editing/writing with a keen eye for detail
- Experience with InDesign is a plus, but is not required
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills with the ability to set priorities and balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and organization skills with an ability to work with authors, brands, and internal teams
- Strong presentation skills
- Versatile writing skills
