Associate Counsel (Albany, NY)

NYS Public Employees Federation (PEF) is a labor union representing over 50,000 professional, scientific, and technical workers in NYS government. Members include healthcare, education, corrections and supervision, youth services, direct care, and other professional titles.

Position Summary:

As part of PEF’s legal department, the incumbent will support union members and litigate (federal and state courts) on a wide variety of employment related matters such as civil rights, labor law, and civil service law. The individual will also handle proceedings before administrative agencies, defend individual members in contractual disciplinary arbitrations, and respond to legal inquiries.

Position is based in Albany, NY (office setting).

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school (3-year post-graduate program).
• Admission, in good standing, to practice before the New York and Federal Courts.
• No outside practice is permitted (after being hired).

Successful candidate must demonstrate:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Travel within NY State is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,572.00 - $133,411.00 per year
