Job Overview

The Associate Counsel – Environmental is primarily responsible for supporting Prime’s Chief Commercial and Compliance Officer regarding the acquisition, financing and operation of commercial real estate, including environmental due diligence, review of title insurance and third-party reports and regulatory compliance. In addition, the candidate will assist with other corporate matters as assigned by the Chief Commercial and Compliance Officer, including drafting and/or reviewing commercial agreements, policies and procedures, conducting legal research and providing litigation support. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in environmental regulatory compliance, coupled with a strong background in commercial real estate transactions and land use and development.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on federal and state environmental regulations and compliance
  • Representing clients in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance matters
  • Prepare legal documents and contracts related to environmental laws
  • Working with outside counsel to structure, negotiate and close commercial real estate
  • transactions and financings
  • Handling environmental due diligence for real property acquisitions
  • Review and assess third-party property condition reports, environmental reports (e.g., Phase I/II ESAs) and zoning reports
  • Review and analyze title and survey documents
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to environmental law
  • Conduct legal research on environmental laws and regulations
  • Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, permits, and regulatory filings

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental law
  • JD degree from an accredited law school in the U.S.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state and the ability to practice law in the State of New York
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Track record of establishing solid relationships, polished and highly personable
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial-minded environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal clients, outside counsel and other stakeholders

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
