Role Summary

Neighbor Interiors is seeking an Associate Designer to join our growing design team. This is a full-scope design role. You'll be involved in every phase of a project, from producing detailed AutoCAD elevations and photorealistic 3D renderings to leading material selections, presenting to clients, conducting site visits, and managing construction administration alongside our builders and trades.

You will lead client projects under the guidance of our Principal Designer, carrying design intent from the first mood board through the final walkthrough. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable in rendering software and in a stone yard, who can produce builder-ready CAD elevations as well as select finishes to furniture.

If you want to practice design at the highest residential level, we'd love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce detailed interior CAD elevations, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and millwork drawings for ground-up custom homes and large-scale renovations.
  • Create photorealistic 3D renderings that allow clients to visualize finished spaces before construction begins.
  • Compile and organize technical deliverables for inclusion in Neighbor’s comprehensive design books.
  • Lead material, finish, and fixture selections across all project phases, from plumbing and cabinetry through hardware, lighting, paint, and wall coverings.
  • Source and evaluate products from vendors, showrooms, and trade resources to meet each project’s design vision and budget.
  • Develop and present selection boards and finish palettes to clients for review and approval.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, maintaining clear, warm, and proactive communication throughout.
  • Present design concepts, selections, and progress updates to clients in studio and on site.
  • Coordinate with architects and builders on drawing revisions, selection specifications, and design intent clarification.
  • Conduct regular site visits during construction to verify design intent is being executed accurately.
  • Coordinate with traces (cabinetry, tile, stone, paint, lighting, plumbing) to review installation details and resolve field questions.
  • Manage quality reviews to ensure the finished product meets Neighbor’s standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited interior design program
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of interior design experience on luxury residential projects. Custom home or high-end renovation experience required. Conceptual or commercial-only portfolios will not be reviewed.
  • Software: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD. Proficiency in at least one 3D rendering platform (SketchUp preferred). Comfortable working within a Mac-based environment and Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem (Photoshop). Familiarity with Studio Designer preferred.
  • Skills: A trained eye for proportion, scale, and material relationships in high-end residential spaces.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. You'll be presenting to clients, coordinating with architects and builders, and representing Neighbor's design standards in every interaction. Warmth, clarity, and professionalism matter.
  • Team Fit: You thrive working under a Principal Designer's creative direction while taking full ownership of your assigned projects. You're self-directed, detail-oriented, and energized by seeing a project through from concept to completion.
  • Work Ethic: Dependable, proactive, and able to manage multiple active projects without sacrificing quality or client experience.
