What You'll Do

The Associate Development Officer will support the organization's fundraising efforts by developing and managing a portfolio of institutional funders and some individual donors. This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding these funders to ensure meaningful engagement and long-term support.

With a focus on fundraising, database management, and grant writing, the Associate Development Officer plays a key role in executing monthly and annual giving campaigns, coordinating donor stewardship activities, and identifying new funding opportunities. Additionally, the Associate Development Officer will research, draft, and submit smaller grant proposals in partnership with the Senior Director of Advancement, contributing to the organization's institutional fundraising efforts. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fundraising & Donor Relations (60%)

  • Manage and maintain donor records in Salesforce, ensuring accurate donor records and reporting.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship activities, including acknowledgments, thank-you letters, and impact reports.
  • Lead in planning and executing the annual Giving Tuesday campaign, appeals, and donor engagement initiatives.
  • Manage, grow, and monitor the organization's monthly giving program, with a focus on donor retention and acquisition.

Grant Writing & Reporting (30%)

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Draft, edit, and submit small to mid-size grant proposals and letters of inquiry (LOIs), ensuring alignment with funder priorities and organizational goals.
  • Maintain an up-to-date grants calendar, tracking deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Program staff and other internal stakeholders to gather data and success stories for grant narratives.

Administrative & Development Operations (10%)

  • Maintain organized files of all fundraising materials, proposals, and reports.
  • Prepare fundraising reports and dashboards for leadership and board presentations.
  • Support the Development Officer and Senior Director of Advancement with prospect research and donor cultivation materials.
  • Assist in developing content for newsletters, donor communications, and social media related to fundraising.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • You have 2 - 4+ years of progressive experience in fundraising and a firm understanding of nonprofit fundraising best practices
  • You have experience in institutional giving, required or annual or monthly giving highly preferred
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience drafting donor communications or grant proposals
  • Proficiency in donor databases/CRM systems (Salesforce)
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
