Position Title: Associate Director / Facilities Engineer
Department: Plant Operations
Term of Assignment: Continuing

FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtime
Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; call outs as necessary and special events
Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $95,100-$107,000
Travel: Less than 10%
Brief Statement of Duties: Responsible for providing leadership to Plant Operations to include: 1) all building and utility systems maintenance (preventive, general repair, emergency and long-term), 2) the management of the building management systems and computerized maintenance management system, 3) projecting, planning, securing and managing long-term maintenance projects associated with all building and utility systems to ensure reliable and efficient system operation, 4) developing energy conservation and carbon neutrality efforts including executing supportive initiatives, projects and programs, 5) tracking, analyzing, and reporting of all campus utilities usage, and 6) project management which includes all duties associated with design, bidding, and construction.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Degree Area: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, etc.) or related field.
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Valid motor vehicle operator's license
Required Minimum Work Experience: Five years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance.
Three years of experience in preparing, reviewing, and/or critiquing construction design documents.
Three years of construction methods, coordination, and/or inspection experience.
Two years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Knowledge of operation, maintenance and construction techniques/methods and safety rules as they apply to the operation and maintenance of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, architectural, steam distribution and energy management systems and equipment.
Knowledge of HVAC control and facilities management software systems.
Knowledge of design, bidding, construction, operation, and maintenance phases of building and infrastructure systems.
Knowledge of relevant codes and regulations.
Demonstrated strong supervisory and management skills.
Computer application skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet, web-based programs).
Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with a broad variety of people and prepare quality correspondence, reports, and other written materials.
Excellent critical thinking skills, good judgment.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to plan and coordinate projects, handle multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deadlines.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:
State of Michigan licensed professional engineer registration.
Supervision of technical trades in union shop.
Knowledge and experience in engineering for schools or institutions; preferably a university facilities department.
Budget and construction cost estimating experience.
Experience or training in working with Facilities Management Systems (i.e. Johnson Controls Metasys).
Experience or training in working with Computerized Maintenance Management System (i.e. TMA).
Training or experience in customer service.
