Supervisory Relationship: Director of Institutional Giving & Partnerships

General Job Description

The Associate Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for managing and strategically growing a portfolio of private institutional donors supporting TRP’s general operations and programs. This role will lead the coordination and writing of complex private grant proposals and reports. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Institutional Giving & Partnerships, Chief Development Officer, Grants Managers, and program leadership to cultivate, solicit, and steward impactful funding relationships. This position is best suited for a seasoned institutional fundraiser with a track record of securing significant grant revenue, managing effective donor relationships, supervising staff, and contributing to fundraising strategy, who brings a deep commitment to immigrant justice and housing.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision and Operations – 30%

· Strengthen internal systems and processes related to institutional giving, including grants management, stewardship, and prospecting, to work more efficiently and raise more funds

· Supervise at least one grants manager, maintaining weekly one-on-ones to support grant review, prospecting support, and strategic development

· Utilize Salesforce to track fundraising progress, deadlines, and maintain up-to-date donor records

· Improve Salesforce tracking mechanisms as needed in partnership with Monitoring & Evaluation team

· Support forecasting, budgeting, and reconciliation in partnership with Institutional Advancement, Finance, and program teams

Institutional Fundraising – 40%

· Manage and grow a portfolio of private institutional funders, contributing an anticipated $2M in annual revenue

· Cultivate and steward relationships with foundation and corporate partners, including coordinating meetings, site visits, and other engagement opportunities

· Identify, research, and qualify new institutional funding opportunities

· Partner with senior leadership and program teams to strategically position funding opportunities

· Lead and support strategies to increase fundraising from new and renewing private institutions

Grant Writing & Application Management – 30%

· Lead the development and submission of complex grant proposals, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and donor guidelines

· Oversee the full lifecycle of private grants, including proposal narratives, budgets, reports, and supporting documentation

· Write clear, compelling narratives

· Support writing of public grant narratives

· Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather relevant information for grant applications and ensure timely and accurate submission

· Ensure compliance with grant terms and reporting requirements for private grants

· Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports, showcasing the impact of TRP programs

Performance Measures

· In partnership with CDO, Director of Institutional Giving, and Grants Managers, raise a budgeted $7.4M in private institutional revenue in FY26

· Meet 100% of grant proposal and report deadlines

· Gain expert knowledge of TRP programs and operations, demonstrated by writing clear, persuasive narrative

Essential Knowledge and Skills

· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience

· At least eight years of successful grant writing and institutional giving experience for non-profit organizations

· Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of institutional funders and secure six-figure grants

· Excellent grant writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

· Ability to develop and sustain long-term, strategic relationships with donors and internal stakeholders

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams

· Strong project management skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

· In-depth understanding of Chicago fundraising landscape

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor databases (e.g. Salesforce)

· Experience supporting or guiding team members or projects is a plus

Special Working Conditions and Demands

· Ability to work some evenings for donor and partner events as needed (estimated 1x/month)

· Ability to travel within city and suburbs as needed

Position Classification & Salary

Full-Time, Exempt. Salary commensurate with experience. $70,000 - $90,000.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
