Summary Description:

Under the general direction of the VP of IT, the Associate Director, IT Infrastructure, is a working manager responsible for the organization’s IT infrastructure and services. This includes data center infrastructure (servers, storage, facilities, networking & appliances), data center applications, network administration, network engineering, client environment engineering, tier 3 support, and serving as the point of escalation for information security.

This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership to manage a team of four Solutions Engineers, and an open, adaptable mindset to embrace emerging technologies, including AI. The ideal candidate is curious, proactive, and committed to challenging the team to grow while holding them accountable for results.

What will your day look like?


Strategic Alignment & Communication

  • Assist in setting and communicating the IT infrastructure strategy to align with future business plans.
  • Translate strategic goals into actionable projects and tasks for the team.

Team Management & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Solutions Engineers.
  • Manage daily operations to ensure secure, reliable infrastructure and oversee incident response.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, continuous learning, and accountability.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and security issues.

Cloud & Emerging Technologies

  • Support cloud, IaaS, and SaaS initiatives.
  • Stay informed about AI tools and technologies relevant to infrastructure management.
  • Encourage the team to explore and implement AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure systems including servers, storage, networking, and data center facilities (UPS, HVAC, security).
  • Manage hybrid environments including on-premises infrastructure, public cloud platforms, and SaaS applications.
  • Coordinate after-hours maintenance and emergency response as needed.

Security Infrastructure Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the security team to implement and verify security policies and projects.
  • Monitor compliance and assist with audits, remediation, and risk assessments.
  • Provide security awareness training to IT staff and ensure best practices are followed.
  • Participate in threat landscape analysis and contribute to security planning.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and audit guidelines.

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Implement and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans for key systems and operations.
  • Test and validate recovery procedures regularly.

Vendor & Service Provider Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Conduct performance reviews based on SLAs and manage procurement processes.
  • Assist with RFPs/RFIs, product evaluations, and contract negotiations.

Project Implementation & Coordination

  • Lead infrastructure projects in coordination with project management leads.
  • Ensure project deliverables, budgets, and timelines are met.
  • Manage internal and external resources effectively.

Advisory & Innovation

  • Advise leadership on emerging infrastructure services, technologies, and risks in collaboration with IT Leadership team.
  • Identify opportunities to apply new technologies to improve operations and business services.
  • Monitor changes in supplier capabilities, standards, and industry trends.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the IT department and organizational goals.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing IT infrastructure or support teams.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture, systems administration, and network engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server & Client OS, VMware, Cisco networking and voice, Nimble SANs, and multi-carrier WANs.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), SaaS models, and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of data center operations, telecommunications, client/server computing, and production support.
  • Experience with enterprise software, hardware platforms, database administration, and outsourced systems.

Soft Skills

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and redirect teams as needed.
  • Strategic thinker with a “big picture” view across infrastructure, security, and user experience.
  • Comfortable using and promoting AI tools to enhance IT operations and decision-making.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and or move up to 15 pounds of material, boxes, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten and or typed material and must have the ability to focus.
