Job Summary

The Associate Director of Collection and Resource Services provides strategic vision and expertise in the management, organization, and lifecycle of Georgia College's electronic and print resource collections. The Associate Director oversees continuing resources management, including identifying and resolving complex issues related to electronic serials, databases, and subscriptions.

The Associate Director manages licensing matters with comprehensive knowledge of how and for whom the organization licenses content, as well as the concepts, implications, and contract language pertaining to archival rights, perpetual access, and interlibrary loan. The Associate Director maintains current high-level working knowledge of print and electronic resource processing while identifying, evaluating, and staying current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access, and discovery to enhance library services.

This 12-month faculty position requires an ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science, with the experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Responsibilities

Budgeting - 20
Collaborates with department members to plan the department budget

Administers the department budget

Assists and advises the Library Director and Library Management Council in monitoring library budgets and expenditures

Makes recommendations identifying materials, equipment, supplies, personnel, and other needs

Applies knowledge of budgeting principles and experience in developing budget spreadsheets

Leadership - 15
Maintains and communicates awareness of emerging issues, ongoing developments, and technologies to the Dean of the University Library and the Library Executive Session, including strategic planning and the establishment of goals and objectives

Provides leadership in the attainment of departmental goals and objectives and supervises their implementation

Maintains knowledge of the Library's services, locations, personnel, and policies and recommends changes and guidelines as appropriate

Directs all major projects assigned within the responsible area

Applies knowledge of strategic planning and assessment as they relate to academic libraries

Administration - 10
Applies knowledge of and experience with acquisitions, cataloging, continuing resources, database management and quality, and processing of materials

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing - 10
Actively solicits, creates, and teaches information literacy instruction to support students and the University's curriculum

Contributes to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching information literacy-related first-year (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses and courses in the library's Information Studies minor

Provides consultation services to students and faculty as assigned and creates and promotes instructional materials such as bibliographies, service guides, web publications, and subject-related research guides

Participates in the Library's collection development efforts by reviewing, selecting, and making recommendations for the purchase of library materials that support the curriculum

Liaison - 10
Provides consultation and education to faculty and students on library resources

Helps administrators, faculty, and students understand the role of the institutional repository as a scholarly communication tool

Supervision - 10
Recruits, recommends for hire, trains, coaches, supports, supervises, and evaluates faculty, staff, and student assistants

Makes recommendations regarding faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion

Handles personnel actions and decisions based on applicable policies, procedures, and practices

Mentors faculty and staff

Applies personnel management experience, including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating staff

Faculty - Public Service - 5
Public service is often part of the service expectations and may include activities such as service to the profession, consulting work, membership and participation in community organizations, and other significant services to the community.

Faculty - Professional Development - 5
Remains professionally active in area of expertise

Maintains expert knowledge of recent advances and trends in librarianship and related fields through reading, training, networking, attending conferences and workshops, and other means of professional development and personal growth

Demonstrates knowledge of opportunities within the profession, committee structures, and Robert's Rules of Order

Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Faculty - Scholarship and Creative Activity - 5
Participates in planning, researching, writing, and publishing in areas of expertise as a member of the faculty

Participates in professional organizations

Plans and participates in programs, activities, and workshops

Seeks external sources of funding and submits grant proposals

Faculty - Service to Institution - 5
Contributes service to the institution through activities such as:

Department, college, and university committee memberships and offices

Planning and participating in programs, activities, and workshops

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
ALA-accredited Master's of Library Science degree

Required Experience
Three years of demonstrated experience:

Supervising departmental employees, including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating performance

Managing electronic serials, databases, and subscriptions

Administering an integrated library system (ILS) in a shared environment

Engaging with vendors of print and electronic resources

Training and informing end-users and decision-makers on library resources and services

Leading projects, committees, and workgroups

Collaborating across library departments on services and resources such as interlibrary loan, open education resources, and course reserves that support student success

Working with access and identity management or proxy server tools such as OpenAthens

Utilizing an integrated library system (ILS) in a shared environment

Planning and administering library budgets

Participating in large-scale library projects, such as collection weeding or analysis initiatives

Providing reference services and information literacy instruction to students


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Five years of demonstrated experience:

Supervising professional or faculty librarians and library staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating performance

Strategically utilizing the Ex Libris Alma integrated library system (ILS) and associated technologies (e.g., Rapido, Leganto, Specto) to advance the mission of the library and the university

Administering library budgets, including forecasting, evaluating, and objectively allocating resources across departments and funds

Assessing the need for and initiating large-scale projects such as new system implementations, collection weeding/analysis, or similar ventures

Working with access and identity management or proxy server tools and/or electronic reserve systems to explore the correlation between library resource usage and student outcomes

Teaching for-credit information literacy courses
