WTWH Media seeks an enthusiastic, motivated, and detail-oriented Associate Editor to work on our Consulting-Specifying Engineer (csemag.com) brand, a resource for engineering professionals in non-residential building construction.

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a candidate interested in covering the engineering processes and technologies that impact the design of high-performance commercial buildings. Working with experienced editors and subject matter experts, you will help shape the coverage in both print and online channels while developing your own voice as a digital storyteller.

We value candidates eager to learn and collaborate, particularly in using performance data (from website analytics, social media, newsletters) alongside senior editors to understand audience behavior and iteratively refine our content approach. Consulting-Specifying Engineer is written and peer reviewed by engineers and industry professionals who work in non-residential construction focusing on codes and standards, mechanical/HVAC and electrical systems, fire safety and building automation.

In this deadline-oriented environment, your cross-functional role includes working with contributors on content, editing and posting articles online, managing newsletters and webinars, working with the senior editors and designers on preparing print editions, as well as writing and creating your own content for the website and social media. You will also work closely with other brand leaders to help with special projects as needed.

The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, organized, flexible, eager to learn, social media savvy, willing to travel, and thrives in a collaborative environment with other editors and departments within the engineering group at WTWH Media. Experience writing for publications (student-run or other) is highly preferable.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or a similar field
  • 1+ year of writing experience, engineering industry experience is a plus but not required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, solve problems, and consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to understand and clearly communicate information on technical topics
  • Excellent content editing skills for written technical content
  • Experience with WordPress, video editing; Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, etc., is a plus
  • Great oral communication skills, including in front of a camera
  • Understanding of SEO and creating content that drives target audience opens and clicks
  • Comfortable using social media for audience engagement
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or other website monitoring tools
  • Willingness to travel and cover industry events or customer meetings
  • Deadline-oriented time management skills, with the ability to turn around stories on tight deadlines and in multiple formats
  • Consistent positivity and curiosity, and a sense of urgency to set and meet goals while maintaining journalistic integrity
