The Public Works Department plays a key role in maintaining and improving the City’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. The department oversees streets, traffic systems, landscaping, lighting, water, sewer, and storm drains, as well as City-owned facilities and vehicle fleets. Public Works also provides engineering, environmental compliance, and inspection services, manages capital improvement projects and recycling programs, and administers the City’s solid waste franchise. What You’ll Do
As our new Associate Engineer (CIP), you will:

Perform professional engineering duties in support of City programs, projects, and activities; manage capital improvement projects, review, and prepare plan specifications and relevant reports and development plans.

Oversee planning, design, and construction management duties for traffic systems projects.

Coordinate and participate in meetings with City staff, contractors, engineers, developers, architects, outside agencies, and the general public regarding engineering activities.

Review and make recommendations on the approval of engineering plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, contract provisions, legal descriptions, and maps, ensuring compliance with policies and local and state codes, ordinances, and regulations.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:

Has knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering, as applied to methods, materials, and techniques used in complex construction projects.

Has the ability to prepare complex engineering computations and check, design, and oversee the preparation of various engineering plans and reports.

Is excited by challenges, loves to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
-
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or a related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
-
Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer.
-
Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
-
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
-
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
-
The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 20 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
