Associate Immigration Attorney

For the last 15 years, Stratton Immigration has served the immigrant community and their families. Stratton Immigration is a welcoming firm, taking clients as they are. We provide ethical representation in all forms of litigation, including before the Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland immigration courts, including representation for detained clients at the Northwest ICE Processing Center, and BIA appeals. With expertise in complex matters, including the intersection of criminal and immigration law, Franco class members, waivers, asylum, U-visas, and family petitions.
If you are committed to representing vulnerable populations, including Spanish-speaking clients at a small firm that is growing, this may be the position for you. Our new associate attorney will have immigration law experience, and a desire to litigate on behalf of our clients before and in court – including at the Northwest Detention Center. Brief writing experience, as well as empathetic and clear client communications are a must.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
· Willingness to represent clients with histories of mental health, criminal convictions, and victimization;
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
· Potential client consultations;
· Ongoing client communications in-person, phone, and email;
· Analyzing client records and documents and the legal issues in each case;
· Researching legal issues and administrative and appellate law relating to the legal issues for each case;
· Preparing client matters for consideration by the court or administrative agencies, including pre-hearing statements, country condition research, legal brief writing, testimony preparation;
· Successfully managing a full active case load of immigration clients, including clients referred through ECO and NQRP contracts;
· Drafting motions, briefs, and other legal documents for your cases, as well as supporting the firm’s other cases with legal writing;
· Maintaining client records and record of communications in firm case management system;
· Traveling to Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, USCIS office in Tukwila, and other immigration courts and offices as needed;
· Assisting with administrative tasks as needed, including answering phones; helping with walk-in prospective clients; checking and responding to office mail, email, fax, and voice mail; assisting with preparation of materials; keeping client databases current; attending fundraising events; and other office tasks.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Performance of duties and tasks uses standard office equipment, including telephone equipment and computers. Work is performed inside with exposure to heating and air-conditioning. Driving or other travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
· Experience handling detained cases;
· Experience working with clients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse;
· Working knowledge of Washington’s Vulnerable Youth Guardianship law and procedures;
· Experience working with clients in crisis and low-income clients;
· Diversity of personal and professional experience;
· Ability to commence work in January 2026.
Salary and Compensation
Competitive salary depending on experience.
