Associate, Learning Management System (LMS) Technical Administrator (Canvas)

Position Summary:

The Associate LMS Technical Administrator provides hands-on technical administration of institutional learning platforms, with primary responsibility for integration lifecycle management, developer key governance, automation oversight, and global LMS customization. This role serves as the technical escalation authority for LMS-related issues and is responsible for production-impacting configuration and theme deployments.

The Associate LMS Technical Administrator operates under the direction of the Manager, Learning Systems & Integrations and maintains accountability for system integrity, integration stability, and platform performance.

Role and Responsibilities:


  • Configure and manage Canvas Developer Keys and integration credentials
  • Oversee full lifecycle management of LTI tools, including approval, testing, deployment, and retirement
  • Serve as primary escalation contact for integration and vendor-related technical issues
  • Approve and coordinate production-impacting configuration changes

Theme & Global Customization

  • Develop, maintain, test, and deploy Canvas theme customizations including CSS and JavaScript
  • Implement behavior modifications and UI adjustments as needed to support institutional requirements
  • Maintain version control and testing protocols for theme updates
  • Ensure accessibility and performance compliance of theme-level modifications

Automation & API Governance

  • Oversee API-based automation workflows and data integrations
  • Establish standards for secure data exchange and script deployment
  • Review and approve Python-based automation processes prior to production use
  • Monitor integration and automation health

Technical Escalation & Vendor Coordination

  • Provide Tier III/IV escalation support
  • Coordinate with vendors for high-severity technical incidents
  • Lead technical validation during LMS release cycles
  • Maintain documentation of integration architecture and system dependencies

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) Masters Prefered
  • 4-6+ years of progressive LMS technical administration experience
  • Advanced expertise in Canvas configuration, account architecture, and permissions
  • Demonstrated experience managing LTI lifecycle and developer keys
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and CSS for theme customization and behavior modification
  • Experience overseeing API integrations and automation workflows
