Associate - Produce

Overview
The Produce Clerk is responsible for ensuring the produce department is well-stocked, clean, and appealing to customers. This role involves handling and displaying produce items, maintaining high standards of quality and freshness and assisting customers. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, customer-focused, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

Receive and Process Deliveries:

• Unload, break down, and stock deliveries of fresh produce. This involves checking the quantity and quality of the incoming items, and ensuring they are properly stored and handled.

Produce Preparation:

• Trim and cut the fresh produce before wrapping and packing items to meet internal quality standards as well as the food safety guidelines.
• Identify and remove any damaged or expired produce.

Stock and Merchandise:

• Rotate, stock and replenish produce to ensure the product availability, quality and freshness.

Sales & Promotions:

• Work with various departments and produce supervisors or managers to ensure pricing & promotions items are accurately displayed.

Customer Service:

• Assist customers with questions about the items and recommend products.
• Carry whole cases of produce items to the front area upon the customer’s orders.

Hygiene, Waste and Equipment Management:

• Clean and maintain produce display cases, shelves, and storage areas regularly.
• Follow the food safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Dispose of waste and unsaleable products according to store procedures.
• Report any equipment issue to the supervisor or manager.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age
• Previous retail or grocery experience (preferred, but not required)
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and correspondences in English
• Strong attention to detail and knowledge of fresh produce
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push and pull up to 100 lbs
• Ability to operate equipment including pallet jack, scissor lift, knife, compactor, and scrub machine safely and efficiently
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $12.00 per hour
