The responsibilities of faculty members shall be an appropriate combination of:
a) Dissemination of knowledge through undergraduate and / or graduate teaching; and
b) Research, scholarly or other creative activities; and
c) University, community, and professional services
in areas related to engineering systems, operations, analytics, and management
Strategic Responsibilities
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Engineering Systems and Management program.
- Support program accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Help shape research priorities aligned with department and university goals.
- Support growth of graduate programs and student recruitment.
Operational Responsibilities Teaching
- Teach at undergraduate and graduate level in Engineering Systems and Management and on time schedules allocated by the Chair of Department
- Support outcome-based learning and program assessment
- Use project-based, case-based, and data-driven learning approaches
- Integrate modern analytical, digital, and decision-support tools into teaching
- Prepare teaching material including course outline, syllabus and lesson plans. Revise the subject matter on a regular basis as appropriate for that subject
- Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum
- Provide students with detailed syllabus, methods of instruction and evaluation in their courses
- Engage in the selection of textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses
- Monitor students' performance in their subject areas and provides remedial classes when necessary
- Set and mark exams, coursework, assignments, laboratory work, homework, design projects, case studies and any other relevant activity.
- Supervise students' research and practical work and of their theses preparation, as well as participate in evaluation of their theses
- Participate in professional peer reviews
- Supervise senior design projects, industry projects and internships
- Develop and improve their scholarly competence and effectiveness as teachers within their area of expertise
Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities
- Carry out high-impact research and produces peer-reviewed publications, or other research outputs, in line with personal objectives agreed in the review process
- Supervise MSc and PhD research
- Lead a sustained research agenda in Engineering Systems and/or Management
- Engage in scholarly or creative activities in their area of expertise and make results available for critical peer review
- Deliver papers at professional association meetings, seminars and conferences
- Participate in panels at regional and international meetings of professional organizations
- Identify and successfully bid for external funding and grants
- Actively raise the Department and Faculty's profile, internally and externally
- Participate in departmental and faculty seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department
- Contribute to research centers, labs, or thematic clusters
- Translate research into practical impact
- Develop interdisciplinary research with engineering, computing, business, health, or industry
- Collaborate with colleagues, both within and outside the University, in conducting and managing research and consultancy activities
Academic Service
- Play an active role in departmental, or University-wide working groups or committees as requested
- Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement activities
- Contribute to student recruitment, retention and placement efforts
- Foster service by contributing to the community at large in participatory, developmental or advisory capacity
- Support and participate in student organization activities
- Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
- Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed
- Contribute to the academic community through peer review, editorial roles, and professional organizations.
- Engage in outreach, collaboration, and public engagement activities. Support interdisciplinary and community-facing initiatives in productivity, sustainability, digital transformation, and operational excellence
- Contribute to executive education, professional training, or consultancy where relevant
- Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise MSc and PhD students
- Mentor research assistants, teaching assistants, or postdoctoral researchers where applicable
- Supervise senior design teams and internship students
- Provide academic mentorship to junior faculty when requested
- Oversee labs, research groups, or projects where applicable
Qualifications & Experience
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree, in related discipline from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant academic experience, with at least 5 years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of teaching, peer-reviewed scholarship, graduate supervision, and contribution to academic service. Experience in external funding, industry collaboration, curriculum development, and accreditation is highly desirable.
