- This position is remote however individual must be within 30 miles of an ACBJ office
- Identify and evaluate large federal and state databases for integration into ACBJ's data infrastructure
- Develop and maintain data pipelines for importing, cleaning, and storing datasets optimized for newsroom use
- Transition legacy datasets into structured, searchable formats
- Create tools and documentation for localizing national datasets
- Provide training and support on data sourcing and ethical usage
- Establish standards for data quality, sourcing transparency, and version control
- Align data operations with strategic goals and publishing calendar
- Contribute to AI-assisted tools and automation strategies
Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar languages
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Datawrapper, D3.js, ai2html) and statistical modeling
- Familiarity with APIs, large-scale web scraping and bulk data downloads
- Strong understanding of business journalism and editorial decision-making
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Familiarity and experience in utilizing Freedom of Information laws
Experience in training or mentoring staff
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
