About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic early-career Scientist to join our Medical Device Product Development team. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about the design and development process and eager to apply scientific and engineering principles to bring new medical technologies from concept to reality. You will work closely with senior scientists and cross-functional teams to support the creation, testing, and refinement of innovative medical devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, prototyping, and refinement of new medical device concepts.
- Assist in planning and executing experiments to evaluate materials, components, and device performance.
- Support design control activities, including documenting requirements, design inputs, and design verification/validation tasks.
- Generate clear, well-organized technical reports, test protocols, and laboratory documentation.
- Conduct data analysis and help identify trends that inform design decisions.
- Collaborate with project team to develop test methods, build prototypes, and troubleshoot design challenges.
- Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and project meetings.
- Learn and apply regulatory and quality requirements applicable to medical device development (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485).
Qualifications
Required:
- B.S. or M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
- 0–2+ years of experience in medical device development, biomaterials, laboratory research, or engineering design (internships and academic projects welcome).
- Basic understanding of experimental design, laboratory techniques, or engineering design principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with device prototyping, CAD modeling, materials testing, or mechanical/biological characterization.
- Familiarity with design controls, risk management, or quality systems.
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Prism, Excel).
- Exposure to medical device testing standards or verification/validation processes.
- Experience with some of the following: Tissue culture/aseptic technique, mechanical characterization and rheology, chemical synthesis, microscopy, and various analytical methods (e.g. HPLC, NMR, spectroscopy).
