Under the general supervision of the Chief People and Culture Officer and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Association Senior Director, Human Resources is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Human Resources Business Partners, and their functions and service to centers and the Association. The Senior Director, Human Resources is responsible for ensuring team member relations are managed at a high standard and level of service. This role also provides related HR business support to Association departments and teams, ensuring they receive guidance, resources, and partnership on team member relations, policy interpretation, organizational practices, and other HR needs. The Association Senior Director, Human Resources will have broad knowledge and expertise in the area of team member relations, policy and procedure best practices, and employment law, and must be able to handle highly sensitive and confidential information, exercise independent judgement and decision making. This position will work closely with and in partnership with the Association Senior Director, Compensation and Benefits.

Essential Functions
• Supervise and direct Human Resources Business Partners.
• Perform regular leader check-in’s to monitor partnership relationships relative to service expectations.
• Ensure excellent service delivery to leaders and team members.
• Educate and partner with leaders on proactive feedback, coaching, conflict resolution, performance management, structure design, position changes and needs, and effective communication.
• Ensures the performance management process operates with integrity and operational excellence by equipping leaders to deliver meaningful feedback, fostering a culture of continuous development, set effective goals, and ensuring evaluation practices align with Association values and organizational goals.
• Create, implement and enforce HR policies and procedures to improve organizational support and effectiveness.
• Provide strategic HR support.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and YMCA policies, and communicate these to team members, and ensure teams are trained on legal obligations.
• Advise and coach leaders on team member relations and manage complex matters in line with company policies and legislation, seeking counsel when necessary.
• Improve leader performance by identifying problems, evaluating solutions, and coaching managers and team members.
• Manage processes and communications related to reasonable accommodations.
• Support workers compensation in collaboration with Benefits Director.
• Partner with leaders in drafting and the delivery of coaching and counseling documentation.
• Deliver formal training in areas of expertise.
• Manage overall investigative processes and procedures ensuring fairness, equity, transparency, and high service standards.
• Manage processes and strategy related to exit and stay interviews.
• Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, human resources or other relevant field.
• 8+ years of HR experience serving in a human resources role, to include supervision of others and management of human resources at an organizational level.
• Experience with direct or indirect management of multi-unit locations (hospitality, retail, fitness, non-profit, etc.).
• Minimum of 5 years working in a service oriented environment.
• Subject matter expert in team member relations, regulations and compliance.
• Demonstrate Leadership & Influence by modeling high engagement, visibility, and relational presence across the Association.
• Builds authentic, sustainable relationships with staff and leaders that strengthen organizational trust while serving as a connector and culture builder.
• Influences without authority and builds followership through trust and credibility.
• Demonstrates courage in decision-making and clarity in communication.
• Understanding of technology, HRIS, data management and analysis.
• Procedures, methods, strategies and techniques pertaining to HR.
• Knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures on a state and Federal level, and skill set to accurately interpret and administer.
• Strength working in a fast paced, service oriented, multi-priority environment.
• Professionalism and skill-set to relate to team members at all levels and to influence without authority.
• Effectively manage conflict resolution.
• Demonstrate initiative, ethical conduct, sound judgment and decision making.
• Well-organized and possess great oral and written communication skills.
• Successful experience working collaboratively with varying levels of leadership and gain consensus through strong partnerships.

• All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Sr. Professional Human Resources (SPHR), desired.
Working Conditions
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
• The team member frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
• The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Travel as needed.
