The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation of the store, helping lead a team of 10–30 employees while ensuring excellent customer service, strong sales performance, and a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This position plays a key role in employee development, inventory control, food service operations, and maintaining company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations
- Assist in managing daily store operations and ensuring company policies and procedures are followed.
- Support the Store Manager in achieving sales, labor, and profitability goals.
- Open and close the store as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-friendly store environment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Help recruit, train, coach, and develop team members.
- Lead by example and promote a positive work environment.
- Assist with employee scheduling to ensure proper store coverage.
- Monitor employee performance and provide feedback and coaching.
- Help resolve employee concerns and customer complaints professionally.
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure team members do the same.
- Resolve customer issues quickly and effectively.
- Promote company programs, loyalty initiatives, and special promotions.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and stock replenishment.
- Monitor product levels to minimize out-of-stocks and shrink.
- Ensure merchandise displays and promotional materials are properly maintained.
- Conduct inventory counts and assist with inventory audits.
Food Service
- Ensure all food service areas meet company standards for quality, freshness, and cleanliness.
- Monitor food preparation, holding times, and food safety procedures.
- Maintain proper product levels and minimize waste.
- Train employees on food service procedures and sanitation standards.
Administrative Duties
- Assist with daily paperwork, cash controls, deposits, and reporting.
- Monitor labor hours and help manage payroll accuracy.
- Support store initiatives, contests, and company programs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–3 years of retail, convenience store, food service, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Experience with inventory control and cash handling.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn company systems.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
