Yakima Valley College seeks an Attending Dentist – Hourly Relief to provide service to YVC’s Dental Hygiene clinic during the Attending Dentist’s leave schedule. This position is paid at an hourly rate of $80/hour and must be available intermittently throughout the academic year mid-September through mid-June.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean Allied Dental Education, the Attending DentistHourly Relief will have successful industry experience, must be able to develop equity-minded practices within an education environment, and demonstrate the strong promise of becoming a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division.

Essential Tasks

  • Provide dental examinations and medical history consultations. Evaluate deviations of the intra-oral and head and neck areas for referral to the appropriate health care professional.
  • Provide dental diagnosis and comprehensive treatment plans. As the YVC Dental Hygiene Clinic does not provide emergent dental care, all emergent dental conditions must be referred to an outside care provider.
  • Provide close and general supervision for dental hygiene services provided by students and evaluated by licensed dental hygiene faculty.
  • Provide general supervision for the administration of regional licensing exams (one weekend in early June.)
  • Prepare carious lesions for placement of restorations by dental hygiene students.
  • Prescribe medications as needed.
  • Consult on referrals to medical or specialty dental practices.
  • Serve as attending dentist in case of a medical emergency.
  • Supervise screening clinics: approve medical history, vital signs, and provide cursory exams and oral cancer screenings for these patients.
  • Support interprofessional collaboration efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Doctorate of Dentistry or Dental Medicine from a regionally accredited institution
  • Current, valid Washington State Dental License
  • Current DEA License
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR, First Aid, AED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Dentist
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English/Spanish.
  • Experience working in a teaching environment.
ABILITY TO:
  • Learn the technology utilized by the college, including Axium Ascend, Microsoft Outlook, Canvas, Panopto video recording, and various video-conferencing applications.
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule as needed for specific circumstances. The typical schedule is M-F during the day, when needed.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Washington State Dental and Dental Hygiene Practice Requirements (Chapter 18.29 RCW).
  • Dental patient care.
  • HIPAA Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act & FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Infection control standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to perform skills required for evaluation and treatment of dental patients, which includes fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and vision (with or without correction and/or magnification loupes) to see depth, color, fine details.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
