General Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Attorney to join our team and provide comprehensive legal counsel in environmental and land use law. The ideal candidate will advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, draft and negotiate legal documents, represent clients in litigation and regulatory proceedings, and manage client relationships. This role requires substantial experience in environmental law and a proven ability to handle complex compliance, transactional, and litigation matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on regulatory permitting, environmental compliance, remedial requirements, and responses to enforcement actions.
- Prepare legal memoranda, motions, briefs, contracts, regulatory agreements, discovery responses, and policy analyses.
- Conduct legal research relating to federal, state, and local environmental, land use, and administrative laws.
- Represent clients in administrative proceedings, enforcement actions, litigation, and related hearings.
- Counsel clients on environmental liability and risk management associated with asset transfers, industrial operations, site permitting, and renewable energy projects.
- Oversee transactional matters involving environmental liability, including hazardous waste cleanup, insurance disputes, and compliance agreements.
- Support litigation through drafting motions, managing discovery, reviewing and producing documents, and conducting or defending depositions.
- Develop strategies to manage and mitigate client risks while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to business development through client relationship management and participation in networking initiatives.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong legal writing and oral communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive arguments.
- Demonstrated research expertise with proficiency in online legal research tools.
- Strong organizational and project management ability, with capacity to manage multiple matters effectively.
- Independent thinker with sound legal judgment and minimal need for supervision.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and support business growth initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Michigan Bar, or eligibility for admission by anticipated start date.
- 4–6+ years of experience in federal and state environmental and land use law.
- Substantial experience with major federal and state environmental statutes, including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, FIFRA, and Michigan NREPA.
- Experience representing both public and private sector clients in environmental compliance, transactional matters, and litigation support.
- Experience with facility permitting, renewable energy projects, waste facilities, and site development preferred.
- Portable book of business strongly desired.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
