Attorney – Clerk’s Office Operations & Business Entities
Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $97,000 - $150,000
Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience

The State Corporation Commission’s (“SCC” or “Commission”) Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) seeks a staff attorney to join its Financial Services section. This position primarily will provide legal counsel and support to the Clerk of the Commission. As part of this role, the position will work with Clerk’s Office staff concerning all matters within the division's regulatory jurisdiction and consult with other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel. The attorney will provide legal advice on issues concerning business entity statutes, filings by domestic and foreign business entities, assumed and fictitious name filings, and UCC filings. As part of this position, the attorney will assist the Clerk’s Office with requests for business entity records, assist with the review of complex business entity filings, and provide legal support for Clerk’s Office operations and updates to the Clerk’s Information System. The attorney will appear as needed before the Commission as staff counsel in formal proceedings concerning the Clerk’s Office and any related hearings. The attorney also will assist the Clerk’s Office with proposed legislation that concerns duties of the Clerk’s Office.

Major tasks that the attorney will be asked to perform include: (i) provide oral and written legal advice as assigned, in accordance with all professional standards of attorneys; (ii) analyze complex business entity issues; (iii) review Clerk’s Office systems and processes for compliance with legal requirements; (iv) prepare draft Commission orders, opinions, regulations, administrative procedures, memoranda and correspondence as assigned; and (v) participate in formal proceedings before the Commission as staff counsel.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule (some in-office and telework days each week) as well as training and professional development opportunities.
