Position Overview

This role begins as a contractor position and transitions to a full-time, salaried role after 90 days and successful completion of 5 cases. As a contract attorney, you will be compensated per settled case, with the flexibility to manage 15 to 36+ cases annually. Once converted to full-time, you’ll receive a competitive salary, benefits, and generous performance bonuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a substantive caseload from intake to resolution
  • Conduct client consultations and attend IEP meetings
  • Represent clients in mediation and due process hearings
  • Draft legal documents, due process complaints, and related pleadings
  • Collaborate with supervising attorneys, paralegals, and legal staff
  • Maintain prompt, professional, and empathetic communication with clients
  • Ensure compliance with legal standards and state/federal regulations

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active membership with the California State Bar (Required)
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated interest in public interest law
  • Experience working with underserved and marginalized communities
  • Knowledge of special education law preferred, but not required
