This is a .5 (part time) position that is open for the 2025-2026 school year, paid hourly. Since 1995, Designs for Learning (DL) has brought a broad range of experience to the complex and inter-related tasks of founding, developing, managing, and growing self-sufficient charter schools, private schools, government agencies, and small business. Designs for Learning supports schools and other organizations through business office, human resource, technology, leadership support, program evaluation and individualized education systems.

Job Description

Job Title: Autism Specialist

Reports to: Designs for Learning Director of Special Education

Overview: The ideal applicant will have an extensive knowledge on the identification of, interventions for, and support of students meeting the Minnesota criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder. They will have licensure as a Teacher of Autism (ASD) or as an Academic and Behavioral Strategist (ABS) with at least 3 years of experience. The applicant will serve as a consultant to special education teams at Minnesota Public Charter Schools.

Qualifications:

Must have excellent verbal, writing, computer and organizational skills. Further requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Familiarity and experience with the Autism Spectrum Rating Scale, Sensory Profiles, and student questionnaire. The ideal applicant will be familiar with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule.
  • Experience with due process systems for completing required documents.
  • Experience writing Goals and Objectives that meet student needs and comply with Minnesota Monitoring and Compliance guidance
  • Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development
  • Previous work experience with children or in a school setting is beneficial
  • Ability to build relationships with staff and students
  • Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Word; Excel; Outlook; and Teams)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk or hear; specific vision abilities required include close vision. The employee must be able to drive or use public transportation to provide EL services at the school site(s). In addition, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 - $43.00 per hour
