An Automotive Denter repairs damaged vehicle bodies, frames, and panels to restore them to original, roadworthy condition. Key responsibilities include inspecting damage, using specialized tools (hydraulic jacks, welders, grinders) to remove dents, straightening chassis, and replacing damaged body panels with precision.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Damage Assessment: Inspect vehicles to determine the extent of structural or body damage and calculate repair needs.
- Body Repair & Shaping: Use panel beating, hammering, and specialized dent-removal tools to remove dents and straighten damaged metal.
- Structural Repair: Realign vehicle chassis and frames using specialized equipment like pulling machines to ensure accurate measurements.
- Replacement & Welding: Replace damaged, non-repairable panels, doors, and bumpers; perform welding and grinding to join panels, ensuring smooth, finished surfaces.
- Preparation & Quality Check: Prepare surfaces for painting (sanding, priming) and ensure repairs meet manufacturer standards, often coordinating with painters.
- Tool Maintenance: Maintain and properly use workshop tools and equipment, including pneumatic tools and welding machine
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- Experience: Generally requires 3 to 5 years of experience in automotive denting and body repair, often in a dealership or specialized workshop setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in welding, metal fabrication, and using frame-straightening machines (e.g., Car-O-Liner).
- Physical Stamina: The job involves heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs), standing for long periods, and working in various physical positions.
- Certifications: ITI/Diploma in Automobile Engineering or specialized certification in auto body repair is often required.
