An automotive mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains vehicle parts and systems. They utilize computerized diagnostic tools to identify issues and perform routine services like oil changes and brake repairs to ensure maximum vehicle reliability and safety.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnostics: Use advanced scanning tools and manual methods to identify electrical, engine, or mechanical malfunctions.
- Routine Maintenance: Conduct oil/filter changes, fluid flushes, tire rotations, and safety inspections.
- Repairs & Replacements: Fix or swap out worn components like brake pads, sensors, and steering systems to meet manufacturer specifications.
- Quality Assurance: Test drive vehicles and double-check work to ensure issues are fully resolved before client pickup.
- Communication: Clearly explain technical problems and repair requirements to service advisors or directly to customers.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed, accurate logs of all work performed and parts used
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking for accurate troubleshooting.
- Technical Proficiency: Up-to-date knowledge of complex electronic, mechanical, and alternative-fuel systems.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Manual dexterity to safely maneuver heavy tools and maneuver in tight spaces.
- Certifications: Industry credentials like ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) are highly valued and often required for career advancement
- Must have full knowledge and experience on European cars
