Position Summary
To utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other techniques, standards, and tools to develop technical drawings and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, and sketches. Maintain deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. Must coordinate and consult with engineers or designers to complete projects and collaborate with design originators to resolve discrepancies. Additionally, candidate must be willing to travel (CONUS/OCONUS) approximately 10-15% of the time, and physically measure shipboard compartments and components and generate full-scale computer-aided models, schematics and/or technical diagrams of mechanical, structural and electrical systems as requested.
Responsibilities
- Develop 2D and 3D CAD models of ship compartments for use in the development of ship modification drawings.
- Familiarity working with/reviewing/updating TDP, IRD, SID engineering drawing packages
- Responsible for physically measuring and documenting equipment sizes, locations and orientations and generating electronic depictions of equipment layouts as well as any interfacing systems (structure, HVAC, power, network).
- Assist engineers in documenting boundaries and interferences for ship alterations.
- Develop removal and installation drawings in accordance with Navy and/or commercial specifications as requested.
- Independently develop equipment arrangement drawings and system diagrams.
- Correctly develop plan, section and elevation views for drawings to adequately capture details.
- Accountable for developing a list of materials for all removal and installation drawings.
- Knowledgeable of basic engineering design principles and able to solve problems in real time.
- Provide support in the development of work-flow process efficiency.
- Competent with use and development of LISP and VBA tools for CAD automation.
- Competence with manual drafting techniques.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Experience
- 2 to 4 years of related drafting experience with demonstrable knowledge reading technical drawings.
- Proficient with AutoCAD software, Microsoft Office and programming languages. Strong computer and communication skills.
Required:
- High School diploma and demonstrable experience and/or education with AutoCAD.
- This position requires an existing U.S. Government DoD granted security clearance/eligibility at the final Secret level. Individuals must be able to maintain the necessary security clearance/eligibility for continued employment. U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred:
- Technical certificate or technical degree in computer drafting or related discipline.
Special Knowledge Skills:
Required:
- Previous shipboard experience drafting arrangement, structure or mechanical systems.
- Strong focus on visualization and detail as well as a confident “take-charge” attitude
Preferred:
- Experience with 3D modeling software desired.
