Automation Engineer

Role Overview

Our team is looking for a skilled Industrial Controls Engineer to spearhead the design, creation, programming, and ongoing support of automation and control architectures within our manufacturing facilities. You will partner with operations, maintenance, and various project groups to boost equipment performance, enhance system reliability, and drive forward-thinking automation projects.

Successful applicants will demonstrate practical expertise in industrial networking, electrical controls design, HMI/SCADA software, and PLC programming in a production setting.

Primary Duties
  • Engineer, code, debug, and refine control systems based on PLCs.
  • Build and update SCADA and HMI interfaces to support industrial processes.
  • Draft and manage technical documentation, including panel layouts and electrical schematics.
  • Facilitate the commissioning, startup, and validation phases for new automated machinery.
  • Identify and rectify technical faults in controls to minimize production downtime.
  • Work alongside operations and maintenance staff to help boost overall machine reliability and uptime.
  • Set up and repair motion controls, sensors, VFDs, instrumentation, and servo systems.
  • Execute process enhancements to help improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage industrial network protocols such as Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and DeviceNet.
  • Offer technical guidance and educational support to operators and maintenance technicians.
  • Engage in the full lifecycle of capital projects from initial planning to final deployment.
  • Verify that all work adheres to company policies, electrical codes, and safety regulations.
Essential Requirements
  • Degree in Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years working in manufacturing automation or industrial controls.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, and Mitsubishi.
  • Familiarity with HMI software suites like Ignition, WinCC, Wonderware, or FactoryTalk View.
  • Capacity to interpret and draft control panel diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Background in diagnosing electrical systems across 480VAC, 120VAC, and 24VDC ranges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing workflows and industrial automation principles.
Desired Qualifications
  • Integration experience with robotics platforms like ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, or Universal Robots.
  • Expertise in servo drives and motion control hardware.
  • Proficiency in EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Background in SCADA system design.
  • Experience within sectors like packaging, metals, automotive, food and beverage, or process manufacturing.
  • Proven project management capabilities.
  • Possession of a PE license is considered an asset.
