Automotive Mechanic

Independent used car dealership in Fort Lauderdale is hiring a Lead Mechanic to head our 3-person reconditioning team. You will lead 2 other mechanics already on staff.

This is a working lead position. You will be turning wrenches alongside your team while leading diagnostics, quality control, and shop workflow. We are looking for a senior mechanic who can make tough diagnostic calls and keep the team moving — not a paper-pusher.

Our shop reconditions 80+ vehicles per month for the sales lot. We need a lead who can keep the pipeline moving, set the technical standard, and develop the team.

What You'll Do

• Lead diagnostics on complex mechanical and electrical issues — engine, transmission, drivability, electrical, A/C
• Work as a mechanic on your own bay while overseeing 2 other technicians
• Perform final QC inspections and road tests on every vehicle before it goes to the sales lot
• Coordinate with management on parts ordering, repair timelines, and major repair decisions
• Make repair vs. replace recommendations on internal warranty and 30-day courtesy work
• Inspect work from outside sublet vendors (body, paint, upholstery, wheels)
• Maintain shop standards — safety, organization, equipment upkeep, and team accountability

What You Need

• 10+ years of automotive mechanic experience with proven diagnostic skills
• Experience leading or mentoring other technicians in a shop environment
• Ability to diagnose across multiple makes — we run domestic, Asian, and European inventory
• Your own complete professional tool set — required
• ASE certifications preferred (especially A6 Electrical and A8 Engine Performance)
• Spanish-speaking preferred — most of our team is bilingual
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to keep the shop on track without constant oversight
