Automotive Mechanic / Certified Safety Inspector (3+ Years of Diagnostic & Repair)

Job Title:
A-Level Automotive Repair Technician / Diagnostic Technician / Safety Inspector

Job Description:

This is Not an entry-level mechanic position!!!

Right Choice Motors is hiring an elite A-level automotive repair technician who can take a job from start to finish without hand-holding. We need a true producer — someone who can pull a vehicle into the shop, diagnose it correctly, write up the repair, source the parts, complete the work, verify the fix, and finish the paperwork cleanly.

This role is for a technician who thinks like an owner, works with urgency, and takes pride in getting the full job done right.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Diagnose drivability, mechanical, electrical, suspension, brake, cooling, and performance issues
  • Perform major and minor repairs start-to-finish
  • Write your own service recommendations and repair notes
  • Build and manage your own repair tickets/work orders
  • Source your own parts from vendors/parts stores as needed
  • Complete full repair documentation and close out paperwork properly
  • Perform final verification, quality check, and road test when needed
  • Move vehicles in and out of the shop safely
  • Keep your bay clean, organized, and production-ready

What We’re Looking For

  • A-level technician with strong diagnostic and repair ability
  • Can handle a repair from vehicle intake to final completion
  • Comfortable writing up their own jobs and documenting work clearly
  • Able to identify needed parts and get them ordered correctly
  • Works fast, but does not guess and does not cut corners
  • Strong personal accountability — no babysitting, no excuse-making
  • Reliable attendance, reliable transportation, and professional work habits
  • Must be able to work independently and produce consistently

MUST BE:

  • 3+ years of diagnostic and repair experience
  • Missouri Motor Vehicle Inspection License
  • ASE certifications
  • Experience with engines, transmissions, electrical diagnosis, suspension, brakes, and check-engine-light drivability work
  • Technician who can prevent comebacks through proper testing and verification

This Position Is NOT For Someone Who

  • Only does basic maintenance or lube work
  • Needs constant direction to stay moving
  • Is uncomfortable writing tickets, parts lists, or repair notes
  • Swaps parts without proper diagnosis
  • Wants a slow-paced shop or a low-output environment

Flag-time / performance-based pay
Top earning potential for a productive technician who can diagnose accurately, move fast, and finish complete jobs without comebacks.

Application Question(s):

  • This is a fast-paced, flag-time repair shop. Are you comfortable independently handling a job from start to finish — including diagnosis, writing your own ticket/repair notes, sourcing your own parts, completing the repair, and finishing the paperwork without hand-holding?
  • What are the last 3 major repairs or diagnostic jobs you completed start-to-finish?

For each one, tell us: vehicle, customer complaint, how you diagnosed it, what you repaired/replaced, and how you confirmed the issue was fixed.

  • A customer says, “The car shakes at 60–70 mph and the check engine light is on.” What steps would you take, in order, to diagnose the problem?

Please include: what you would check first, what tools you would use, and how you would avoid guessing or replacing parts blindly.
