Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Automotive Transmission Removal and Replacement Technician to join our dynamic service team. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and replacing transmissions in a variety of vehicles, with a focus on delivering high-quality workmanship and exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, experience with automotive electrical systems, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Experience with dealership procedures, diesel engine repair, and automotive diagnostics is highly desirable. This position offers an opportunity to work on GM vehicles and other makes, utilizing advanced tools and techniques to ensure optimal vehicle performance.
Duties
- Remove and replace vehicle transmissions efficiently while adhering to safety standards
- Diagnose transmission issues using schematics, automotive diagnostics tools, and electrical system knowledge
- Perform vehicle maintenance related to powertrain components, including alignments and electrical systems
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and specialized automotive repair tools to complete repairs
- Conduct inspections of vehicle systems to identify additional repair needs such as diesel engine repairs or auto body work
- Test drive vehicles post-repair to ensure proper functioning of the transmission and related systems
- Maintain detailed records of repairs performed and communicate findings effectively to customers
- Assist with general vehicle maintenance tasks as needed, including wheel alignments and system calibrations
Experience
- Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in automotive repair and maintenance
- Dealership experience is a plus, especially with GM vehicles or similar brands
- Familiarity with automotive electrical systems, schematics, and diagnostics tools (ADAS experience is advantageous)
- Hands-on experience working with powertrain components, including transmissions in both gasoline and diesel engines
- Knowledge of vehicle alignment procedures and auto body repair techniques is beneficial
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other automotive service machinery effectively
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients
- Prior experience working on complex mechanical systems within an automotive repair shop environment
