Aviation Communications Transcriber (ATC)

About The Role

We're building next-generation AI systems for aviation and autonomous flight — and we need people who actually understand what's being said on the radio. This is a rare opportunity to put your aviation knowledge to work on cutting-edge AI research, from anywhere in the world.

If you've ever listened to LiveATC for fun, logged hours in the pattern, worked a sector, or spent years around the flight deck — this role was made for you.

  • Organization: Alignerr (Powered by Labelbox)
  • Type: Hourly / Task-Based Contract
  • Location: Fully Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Transcribe real-world Air Traffic Control (ATC) and pilot audio recordings with precision
  • Label speakers, callsigns, clearances, instructions, and read-backs accurately
  • Capture aviation-specific terminology, abbreviations, and standard phraseology correctly
  • Work on flexible, task-based assignments at your own pace
  • Maintain high accuracy standards — quality is critical in aviation AI

Who You Are

This role is ideal for:

  • Pilots (student, private, commercial, or ATP)
  • Air Traffic Controllers (current or former)
  • Aviation professionals — dispatchers, flight ops, military aviation personnel
  • Dedicated aviation enthusiasts who regularly listen to ATC audio and understand radio communications

You don't need a transcription background — but you do need a solid command of aviation phraseology and the ear to catch fast, noisy, real-world radio communications.

You Bring

  • Genuine familiarity with ATC and pilot radio communication norms
  • The ability to decode garbled or fast-paced transmissions that would confuse a general transcriptionist
  • Extreme attention to detail — a missed callsign or wrong instruction matters here
  • Patience and consistency when working through audio tasks
  • Self-motivation to work independently and meet quality benchmarks

Nice to Have

  • Experience with LiveATC, scanner monitoring, or simulator flying
  • Familiarity with ICAO or FAA phraseology standards
  • Multi-engine, IFR, or professional aviation background
  • Experience in any previous transcription or annotation work
