Duties
- Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned with AVID strategies to promote college readiness and academic success across subjects such as math, literacy, and social sciences.
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials that incorporate best practices in education, including curriculum development, lesson planning, and integration of learning technology.
- Mentor and support students through individual academic advising, goal setting, and fostering a growth mindset.
- Implement classroom management techniques that create a positive, inclusive environment conducive to active learning and respectful behavior.
- Conduct assessments using standardized testing methods to monitor student progress and inform instructional adjustments.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects that enhance critical thinking skills such as creative writing, public speaking, or sports coaching.
- Provide proofreading, copy editing, and editing support for student writing assignments to ensure clarity and adherence to AP style.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to childhood development, special education needs, Montessori methods, or education administration to continually refine teaching practices.
- Utilize learning technology tools effectively to enhance instruction and facilitate personalized learning experiences for diverse learners.
- Support extracurricular activities including tutoring sessions, library services, or physical education classes that promote holistic student development.
Experience
- Proven classroom experience with a strong background in teaching middle or high school students across multiple subjects such as math (including algebra, geometry, calculus), literacy education, or physical education.
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds and implementing behavior management strategies effectively.
- Prior involvement in private school settings or specialized programs like Montessori or special education is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate creative writing techniques and standardized testing preparation.
- Strong communication skills for public speaking engagements, parent interactions, and team collaboration.
- Familiarity with curriculum development processes and the use of learning technology platforms for instructional purposes.
- Mentoring or coaching experience in sports or extracurricular activities that foster teamwork and leadership qualities is a plus.
