Babysitter/Respite

Job Description We are a private family looking for a steady, thoughtful caregiver to spend time with our autistic 8-year-old child during after-school hours and weekends. Care will take place in our home. This position is ideal for someone who values relationship-based caregiving and understands that support doesn’t always look like instruction or correction. The role centers on presence, safety, and helping a child feel at ease. You do not need to be an expert in autism. Training and guidance will be provided by the parent. What matters most is curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn what works best for this child. Hours & Availability Regular shifts include (choose 1–2): After school on weekdays (approximately 3:15–6:00 pm) Weekend hours (flexible scheduling) Optional extra hours may be available for: Evenings School breaks -Summer breaks in June and August Snow days Occasional short-notice coverage Applicants who are open to additional hours may be prioritized, but reliable weekly availability is the primary requirement. Applicants must be willing to onboard with Wildwood and submit to a background check. What You’ll Do Spend one-on-one time in a calm, low-pressure way Follow the child’s lead in play and activities Support regulation and transitions as needed Ensure safety and emotional comfort Share brief updates with parents after shifts This role is support-focused, not behavior- or discipline-driven. What We’re Looking For Dependability and consistency A calm, patient demeanor Openness to learning about autism and neurodivergence Comfort receiving guidance and feedback Experience with children, caregiving, education, or related fields is helpful but not required. Care takes place in our home.
