Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Bankruptcy Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team, serving clients across California and Maryland. Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with all phases of bankruptcy cases, including chapter filings, creditor meetings, and court appearances.
- Prepare and review legal documents such as petitions, schedules, proofs of claim, and motions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules.
- Manage case files using legal case management systems like NextChapter, Microsoft OneDrive, and document management systems to ensure organized recordkeeping.
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other research tools to support case strategies across various practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, securities law, and tribal law & regulations.
- Perform document review and data entry tasks with precision to facilitate efficient workflow and case progression; Familiarity with NextChapter, Microsoft Teams and RingCentral is a plus. Expertise in Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite Products, and Adobe is a must.
- Coordinate with clients for interviews and gather necessary documentation through effective communication and interviewing skills.
- Maintain calendar deadlines for filings, hearings, and other critical dates while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proofread legal documents for clarity, accuracy, and proper formatting; transcribe dictations as needed.
- Support attorneys with administrative tasks such as filing documents with courts (including federal and state courts), managing contracts, and handling correspondence.
- Utilize legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis to gather pertinent case law or statutory information relevant to diverse practice areas including workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, immigration law, patent law, and more.
Qualifications
- Proven paralegal experience in a California Bankruptcy Law office, within a busy law office environment supporting litigation or specialized practice areas such as bankruptcy or civil litigation.
- Strong knowledge of legal administrative processes including document review, filing procedures, and case management systems like PCLaw or iManage.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms such as Westlaw and LexisNexis; familiarity with UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code) is a plus.
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting legal documents, correspondence, and reports; keen proofreading abilities to ensure error-free work.
- Effective interviewing skills for client intake processes; professional phone etiquette for client communication.
